Kiwico Review 17: Deluxe Panda Crate, Let’s Go! (32-33 Months)

Kiwico Review 17: Deluxe Panda Crate, Let's Go! (32-33 Months)

November 26, 2024

Disclaimer

My son was born prematurely. He was born at 26 weeks and 6 days (3 months and 1 day early). If this box is for a baby 32-33 months, that means it should work for Aryi 36-37 months, in theory. Aryi was starting to catch up to his age at about a year. He is now fully caught up and surpassed developmental milestones for his age. That means these toys should be appropriate for him now. We are very proud of how far he has come. I feel that all of this makes our experience with development and play particularly unique.

Wonder Play Guide

We are fully in the new versions of the kits now. This means we get the Play Guides instead of Wonder Magazine and instruction cards. Having everything in one bound guide is far more superior than the previous cards and magazine. This Play guide talks a lot about hand-eye coordination. Dr. D answers a question on vision, there are panda tips, you get instructions for how to play with each of the toys in the crate, and DIY or cheap activities to do. These are not duplicable.

Play Snack Set

I adore this little snack set. Aryi loves to play with food. The quality is nice. The pieces are plastic and wooden. The only quality issue might be that the cheese pieces are felt. I would rather them be plastic or wooden like everything else, but it is fine. I like that the different items all have a container that is the whole food and pieces on the inside. We can talk about things being whole or in pieces. This toy is also great for fine motor skills of opening and closing the containers. This is the beginning concept of fractions. Aryi has been playing with it and he loves it. He likes to make cheese sandwiches. We count pieces. He pretends to eat. You can get a different snack pack online for a similar price.

Poppy Plush

This poppy plush is nice, but no better than any other plush out there. It is just a plush, but it is nice for Aryi to have this little friend to go around with him in his backpack. They can eat lunch together. It is super cute. However, it is over priced. I found a cheaper version on Amazon.

Amazon: $11.99

Activity Backpack

I ADORE this backpack. I don’t even care that you can find one cheaper. I found one a dollar cheaper on Amazon. Don’t care. This backpack fits Aryi so well. It doesn’t slide down like most other backpacks do. It has a pouch for poppy, water bottle holder, and hook to hang a keychain or attach a leash. We can throw in poppy’s snacks and maybe some real snacks for Aryi and head out.

Pretend Play Doctor’s Kit

I also ADORE this doctor kit. I love that it has wooden pieces and a carrying case, but my favorite part is the big bandaids. Aryi loves to go to the doctor. I love that the blood pressure cuff is a squeaker, the injector pushes down, the medicine is a shaker. Every part of it is so well thought out. I also love the visit evaluation sheet. I found one about $5 cheaper on Amazon.

‘100 Things I Know How To Do’

This book is super cute. I love that it shows Aryi things he can do. It bothers me that it has been cheaper to get these books on Amazon. It is the same book. It would probably have been better to get the plus crates and get the books from Amazon. That is what I am realizing I should have done.

Worth it?

Amazon Dupes total out to be $68.76 + tax

The Panda crate can come in a few buying options.

Essentials Crate:

$50 + tax/crate for 1 crate ($50 + tax total)

$48 + tax/crate for 3 crates ($144 + tax total)

$45 + tax/crate for 6 crates ($270 + tax total)

Plus Crate:

$80 + tax/crate for 1 crate ($80 + tax total)

$76 + tax/crate for 3 crates ($228 + tax total)

$72 + tax/crate for 6 crates ($432 + tax total)

Deluxe Crate:

$90 + tax/crate for 1 crate ($90 + tax total)

$86 + tax/crate for 3 crates ($250 + tax total)

$82 + tax/crate for 6 crates ($492 + tax total) – This is the one I bought and will be

comparing to.

Obviously the crate was not worth the price if you are just looking at the price per item. You save about $13 buying similar products on Amazon, and that is with the cheapest possible buying option. However, I think the kiwico toys for this crate are better. If you guys check out my last few reviews you can see that I have been very underwhelmed by kiwico lately. I have been upset with the quality of the last 2 crates in particular. This one is great. The toys seem to all have the extra thought that I look for put into them. From the food having pieces that you put together to create a whole, to all of the different fastens on the backpack. You can really see the thought in this crate. If you are not getting every crate, and I definitely don’t recommend the last two, I still recommend this one. To me it is worth it.
