Best Kids Toys 0-12 M (w/ Amazon Links)

November 17, 2025

Tis the season for spending way too much money on tiny children that won’t remember it.

When I am thinking about buying toys for kids, I am thinking about toys that will last a long time or contribute to development. I am thinking about NO noisy buttons or flashing lights. These are some of the best toys for children ages 0-12 months that won’t overstimulate and will help with development.

*Be smart and follow age guidelines, know your kid. Don’t give your kid a toy that could hurt them just because I gave my kid that toy. All kids are different at different ages and can handle different things.

Books – Books are a number 1 for me when it comes to buying toys and activities. At this age especially, the best books are books that have real people and things from around your home in them. I love Lovevery Books especially at this age and am happy to say that they have recently released that you can buy their books separate from toy kits now. That is great news especially since you can now get similar (copycat) playkits from other places for cheaper. I still recommend their books specifically because no one else does it quite like they do.

Blocks – Babies do not need a lot of blocks, just 2 or 3. But, giving them blocks early can “lay down the building blocks” needed for development of fine and gross motor skills.

Playgym – Playgyms are the best toy for a baby who is not sitting up yet. With this in mind know that if you buy a playgym you are buying something that is only going to last you about 6 months. With this in mind, I do think they are great to have if you can spare the change, but definitely not necessary. A playgym is great for babies practicing tummy time and trying to turn over. It is great to have a padded area for their head to land on. They usually come with something black and white and babies LOVE black and white. They also usually come with great sensory areas and sometimes noise makers. I do LOVE Lovevery and know for a fact that their quality makes them worth it. However, Amazon has great dupes these days and one of the ones below cost $30 and has 5 stars at the time of me writing this post.

Teethers – These are probably the most important “toy” you could buy. I would really consider this more of baby gear or hygiene equipment. They are NECESSARY. Babies need a teether when they are teething. I highly recommend the long straw looking ones and the kind that you can freeze. When a baby is teething, a frozen teether can be just what they need.

Crinkle Toys – Babies LOVE crinkle toys. I don’t know why they love them so much, they are kind of annoying to me. But, they are up there on the list of toys a baby needs. They have tons of options out there of crinkle paper, mostly crinkle books. My favorite is the one in the Lovevery kit. I have not seen one quite like it. I like to put a shaker and a teether in it and let the baby figure out how to get it out. They love it and feel great when they get it out. You have to start by having it sticking out.

Stacking Cups – Stacking cups are a must have. These are amazing for fine motor skills. Of course at this age a baby is not stacking, but they will be tapping them together and knocking them over. They do have grow room where you can talk about color and learn stacking and nesting. Eventually you can just leave them in the bath tub when they are bored with it.

Mirror – Mirrors are amazing toys for a baby. Just make sure if you allow them to play with it, it is a baby safe mirror. Babies love to look at faces, most importantly theirs. I loved to put Aryi on top of his Lovevery mirror for tummy time. He would stare at his face. They absolutely love it. As they get older, they make faces and talk to themself in the mirror. You could just put them in front of your bathroom mirror to save money, but be safe.

Shakers – Babies love a good noise maker. They need that sensory output. However, you do not want to overwhelm them. Think shakers and tambourines, not blinking, singing, light up battery powered crap. The best noise maker at this age is a shakers.

Ball Drop – The ball drop is a baby staple. You gotta have one. These are AMAZING for fine motor skills and object permanence. We have the Lovevery ones and they also make a very pleasant noise when the wooden balls drop, but I assume they all would.

Stacking Rings – This toy is also great for development of fine motor skills. Of course at this age, they are mostly pulling the rings off, but eventually they put them back on. I actually prefer the plastic cheaper Amazon version of this toy. Of course with different colored rings, you can eventually use it to teach colors.

Push Walker – Push walkers are great for getting your toddler to finally walk. We got Aryi one with a few activities on it. While they are great, you do not use them for a long time. That is why I prefer to get the Lovevery Stroller that you can then use for pretend play with your dolls or one of the ones with tools or a wagon one. My point is, get a walker that does something besides walk. If they had it back then, the Lovevery Stroller would be my choice. Aryi still uses his stroller, but does not use the walker at all.

Eggs – These eggs are one of my top toys. They grow with the child. Aryi is about to turn 4. He played with these when he was less than 1 and he plays with them now. They are super fun for babies to bang together and try to put the top on the egg. They are great for teething. You can use them to talk about emotions, color match, or shape match. These eggs are an amazing toy.

Activity Center – I love these, but they are definitely not a must have. This is for the baby that has everything else on the list and you still want to buy more for. They are great for the older baby learning how to pull up and walk. Of course for safety purposes if a baby is pulling up you should be helping hold it still, but it is one of the best toys for this, because they go up and down and up and play and down and back up again. It is great. Eventually they walk around it and even forget they aren’t holding on.

Playscarf – These are great for peek-a-boo. Put it over the baby, pull it off, and say peek-a-boo. They LOVE it. These grow to become an open ended toy to be used in 5 million other ways.

I think everyone knows that Lovevery is my favoriate, check out their pre-loved section for toys up to like half off that look brand new. There is of course Kiwico which you guys may know we did like their toys but overall had a terrible time with their costumer service. Amazon is showing up these days with a few brands doing cheaper similar baby toy boxes from brands like Tiny Land and Woodmam.

I hope this gave you a few good ideas.
