Best Kids Toys 1+ (w/ Amazon Links)

Best Kids Toys 1+ (w/ Amazon Links)

November 25, 2025

Tis the season for spending way too much money on tiny children that won’t remember it.

When I am thinking about buying toys for kids, I am thinking about toys that will last a long time or contribute to development. I am thinking about NO noisy buttons or flashing lights. These are some of the best toys for children ages 1+ that won’t overstimulate and will help with development.

*Be smart and follow age guidelines, know your kid. Don’t give your kid a toy that could hurt them just because I gave my kid that toy. All kids are different at different ages and can handle different things.

Books – Books are a number 1 for me when it comes to buying toys and activities. At this age especially, the best books are books that have real people and things from around your home in them. I love Lovevery Books especially at this age and am happy to say that they have recently released that you can buy their books separate from toy kits now. That is great news especially since you can now get similar (copycat) playkits from other places for cheaper. I still recommend their books specifically because no one else does it quite like they do.

Blocks – Giving them blocks early can “lay down the building blocks” needed for development of fine and gross motor skills. In the second year (1-2) they are stacking higher and higher to make taller and taller towers and bust them down.

Stacking Cups – Stacking cups are a must have. These are amazing for fine motor skills. They will still be tapping them together and knocking them over. They do have grow room where you can talk about color and learn stacking and nesting. Eventually you can just leave them in the bath tub when they are bored with it.

Ball Drop – The ball drop is a baby staple. You gotta have one. These are AMAZING for fine motor skills and object permanence. We have the Lovevery ones and they also make a very pleasant noise when the wooden balls drop, but I assume they all would. As the baby gets pats the first year, they have more “advanced” versions of a ball drop, ones with twists and turns, one that slide open, all kinds.

Stacking Rings – This toy is also great for development of fine motor skills. At this age they start to put the rings back on. I actually prefer the plastic cheaper Amazon version of this toy. Of course with different colored rings, you can eventually use it to teach colors.

Push Walker – Push walkers are great for getting your toddler to finally walk. We got Aryi one with a few activities on it. While they are great, you do not use them for a long time. That is why I prefer to get the Lovevery Stroller that you can then use for pretend play with your dolls or one of the ones with tools or a wagon one. My point is, get a walker that does something besides walk. If they had it back then, the Lovevery Stroller would be my choice. Aryi still uses his stroller, but does not use the walker at all.

Eggs – These eggs are one of my top toys. They grow with the child. Aryi is about to turn 4. He played with these when he was less than 1 and he plays with them now. They are super fun for babies to bang together and try to put the top on the egg. They are great for teething. You can use them to talk about emotions, color match, or shape match. These eggs are an amazing toy.

Activity Center – I love these, but they are definitely not a must have. This is for the baby that has everything else on the list and you still want to buy more for. They are great for the older baby learning how to pull up and walk. Of course for safety purposes if a baby is pulling up you should be helping hold it still, but it is one of the best toys for this, because they go up and down and up and play and down and back up again. It is great. Eventually they walk around it and even forget they aren’t holding on.

Playscarf – These are great for peek-a-boo. Put it over the baby, pull it off, and say peek-a-boo. They LOVE it. These grow to become an open ended toy to be used in 5 million other ways.

Pull Animals and Cars – These are Amazing for new walkers, but definitely have a short life span, one of the shortest life spans of a toy that I recommend.

Coin Drop – These go along with posters as a fine motor skill toy. These are also great for this age, but have a short lifespan.

Shape Puzzles – Puzzles are great for motor skills in general. I love a shape puzzle at this age. You can also talk about and learn the shapes. Any brand, and even other types of puzzles would be just as good.

Pouring Pitcher and Cup – Littles are so entertained with just water. For this “toy” you don’t even need to buy anything in particular. Give them any plastic cups with water. I do love the pitcher because they learn the handle and the cup, but just cups are a great option too.

Animals – Animals are a toy that sticks around forever. They are worth the investment. This particular Lovevery set has matching cards for tiny toddlers to learn matching. However, that is definitely not a requirement. I LOVE the Toob sets of animals. You could also just go with wooden animals. Kids will play with animals forever. Aryi is almost 4 and currently loves to build zoos for his animals. I also love to throw them in a sensory bin.

Colorful pegboard – This is one of my favorite toys for this age. Unfortunately I was unable to find a dupe. You can pretty much only get this in this one Kiwico box. I still recommend it if you can spare the change. This toy taught Aryi color matching and all of his colors. He was obsessed with matching the colors.

Fisher Price Little People – These are definitely one of my child’s favorite toys, and they last. They last through years. I am still planning on buying more of these and my son is almost four. I recommend these to everyone. The farm set is great for younger ones without a favorite show or topic, but as they get older there are tons of choices like Frozen or Harry Potter.

Indoor Playgym – I love this for a rainy day when you can’t get outside to climb. I also really love this for littles just turning 1 learning to climb (beginner climbers). It is a shorter fall to the ground.

I think everyone knows that Lovevery is my favoriate, check out their pre-loved section for toys up to like half off that look brand new. There is of course Kiwico which you guys may know we did like their toys but overall had a terrible time with their costumer service. Amazon is showing up these days with a few brands doing cheaper similar baby toy boxes from brands like Tiny Land and Woodmam.

I hope this gave you a few good ideas.
