Best Kids Toys 2+ (w/ Amazon Links)
November 26, 2025
Tis the season for spending way too much money on tiny children that won’t remember it.
When I am thinking about buying toys for kids, I am thinking about toys that will last a long time or contribute to development. I am thinking about NO noisy buttons or flashing lights. These are some of the best toys for children ages 2+.
*Be smart and follow age guidelines, know your kid. Don’t give your kid a toy that could hurt them just because I gave my kid that toy. All kids are different at different ages and can handle different things.
Books – Books are a number 1 for me when it comes to buying toys and activities. The best books are the ones that have real people and real situations, bonus points if they deal with real emotions. I love Lovevery books for that. They have recently released that you can buy their books separate from toy kits now. At this age, other books can be more fun though. We like anything Pete the Cat, Daniel the Tiger, Eric Carle, Disney, and Of Course the Classic Nursery Rhymes.

Blocks – At this age we are no longer stacking a few blocks. We are building houses and bridges. Blocks are one of those toys that just last.

Animals – Aryi still gravitates towards animal toys and probably will for a long time. We love animals in this house. We have cats. We go to the zoo and aquarium all the time. I do believe these will last maybe the longest.

Fisher Price Little People – These have staying power as well. Aryi played with his little people at 1. He still plays with them at almost four and will continue to play with them I know for years. We have other sets now. We have the farm, various vehicles, and some Harry Potter ones. I love that you can get generic versions and some related to a show or topic your kid happens to be obsessed with at the moment.

Indoor Playgym – These are great for when you have too many wiggles to get out but can’t or don’t want to go outside. Perfect toy for gross motor skills.

Pretend Play Kitchen – This is another one that really grows with your kid. Aryi has been absolutely obsessed since we got it. We play with water in this kitchen often. We also pretend to cook in it.

Sink and Lab sets – Aryi loves to play with water, they all do at this age. We actually put this outside so he can make a big big mess. I recommend a lab set or set of containers that can be used for pouring. It is such a good fine motor skill builder.

Puzzles – Aryi loves puzzles. I think they are a great toy for exercising your brain. Pretty much anything they do at this age is exercising the brain, but these are great. Puzzles are a great time user. A kid can get lost in the process of building the puzzle which give you time to chill or get stuff done.

Pretend Play Dolls and Houses – This is probably the best toy for a child to get lost in. Aryi can get lost in his pretend play house for hours. All I remember playing with when I was little was barbies and a barbie house. These are similar concepts, but you can use your imagination when coming up with characters. Pretend Houses and dolls are great for social development and language skills.

Cars and Trains – These are great toys for kids. I do not get it actually. It doesn’t seem fun to me. But, Aryi and every other kid I’ve met loves cars and trains, and they have staying power.

Doctor Kit – Really any pretend kit would work for this. I chose Doctor because I thought it would be a good thing to play with to be less afraid of the doctor’s office. Aryi lives in his imagination. Any pretend play is great at this age.

Playdough and sensory kits – Sensory bins are our number 1. Aryi asks for sensory bins pretty much daily. They are super open ended and open for imagination. They are great for fine motor skills and one of the best time users.

Magnet Tiles – These are another one of those great time users. Aryi will get lost in some magnetic tiles. To be honest, I could get lost in some magnetic tiles. These also last.

I think everyone knows that Lovevery is my favorite, check out their pre-loved section for toys up to like half off that look brand new. There is of course Kiwico which you guys may know we did like their toys but overall had a terrible time with their customer service. Amazon is showing up these days with a few brands doing cheaper similar baby toy boxes from brands like Tiny Land and Woodmam.
I hope this gave you a few good ideas.
