Lovevery Review 9: The Realist Play Kit Months 19-21, With Price Comparison

Lovevery Review 9: The Realist Play Kit Months 19-21, With Price Comparison

January 19, 2024

Disclaimer

My son was born prematurely. He was born at 26 weeks and 6 days (3 months and 1 day early). If this box is for a toddler 10-21 months old, that means it should have worked for Aryi at 24-26 months, in theory. In the past year, he has really caught up to his chronological age and according to our Developmental NP surpassed it. Therefore this playkit for the most part has been great for him at his current stage. I feel that all of this makes our experience with development and play particularly unique, and our thoughts on the playkits particularly unique.

Play Guide Months 19-21

As always, this play guide is amazing. It gives you so many activities to do with the toys in the kits. There are also extra age appropriate activities to do with your toddler that involve cheap things you can buy or things laying around your home. In addition to this there is great information about development and what is going on with your little one at this age.

The Lockbox

Aryi enjoys this box a lot. We get to practice locks, talk about open and closed and talk about in and out with this toy. It is great for learning spatial concepts as well as fine motor skills. This lockbox is clearly made with quality like all of the other wooden Lovevery toys. I will say that all of these locks open too easily. I understand this is probably to make it easier for the toddler that will be playing with it. However, they went a little too far with that because if you turn it around the locks all open. That sucks if you put something in it for the toddler to get out. The dupe I found on Amazon was about twice the price as 1 item from a kit.

Quilted Critter Pockets

Aryi is obsessed with this toy. He can say the animal name of every animal on this toy. We love to make animal noises too. Really anything with realistic animals is going to be a hit in my house. He also loves to talk about pockets and put things in and out of the pockets. I pretty much keep this out because of how obsessed Aryi is with it. I need to find a way to better secure it to our fence. The Amazon dupe is no were near the same, it has the matching animals aspect, but no pockets. It is a few dollars cheaper.

Geo Shapes Puzzle

This puzzle is beautiful with amazing quality. This is a toy that is definitely going to grow with Aryi. We have had it for a few months and he still has trouble when he puts the first shapes in the puzzle making sure the indentation is facing up so he can put the next piece. That will come in time. For now he has figured out a way around that by putting the shape together and then sticking in the space it goes on the board. That seemed super smart to me. I never would have thought of that. I love how toddlers have a way of just doing things their own way that often works. I found an Amazon dupe for $6 cheaper.

“Bea Gets a Checkup”

Aryi loves this book like all of his Lovevery books. It has a real little girl going to see the doctor. She sees fish in the lobby, gets a check up, and has to get a shot. I believe this is the daughter of the Lady who runs Lovevery. I like to read this more before a doctor’s appointment. Aryi hates to go to the doctor. You can find a similar book on Amazon for about $10 cheaper.

Grooved Pitcher and Glass

This toy has been super cool. It really is a skill to pour water, you can make a real mess. A toy like this allows for literal learning through play. You are learning to pour with water instead of randomly trying to pour some juice one day and spilling it all over the floor. The Amazon dupe I found was a few dollars cheaper, but it was 2 pitchers. I did not really find anything that was a pitcher and a cup like this.

Really Real Flashlight

Aryi really likes this flashlight. He likes to turn it on and off. He really likes to light up his own face. I love how easy it is to press the button. Aryi has no trouble like he would a regular flashlight. You can get one on amazon for about half the price.

Wheel Around Town Bus with Peg People

Aryi loves this bus. One of his favorite songs is ‘The Wheels On The Bus’. We sing that and roll the bus around. We make the people walk up the stairs to get into the bus. This is great for more spatial learning. This is one of the few plastic toys in the lovevery play kits. But it comes with 3 wooden peg people. I am not sure why they made that decision, but it is still of great quality. It is super cute and I love that it has handles that Aryi can hold to push the bus around the room. The dupe I found is about $10 more dollars, however it is fully wooden if that is important to you.

“Ready to Go: Pee” and “Ready to Go: Poop”

I love how these books introduce the potty with a real kid and real pee and real poop. That is how kids learn best, by seeing the real thing. Like having books with real animals. It is easier to understand when a picture looks like real life. We love all of the Lovevery books and these 2 are no exception.

Worth it?

Amazon Dupes total out to be $133.04 after taxes are added.

The Lovevery Playkits come in a few buying options (7 items/playkit and 2 items/book bundle):

     $120 for 1 box ($125.34 after taxes) – $17.90/item

     $138 for 1 box with book bundle ($144.14 after taxes) – $17.90/item + $9.40/book bundle item

     $342 for 3 boxes ($357.21 after taxes) – $17.01/item

     $396 for 3 boxes with book bundle ($413.61 after taxes) – $17.01/item + $9.40/book bundle item

     $432 for 4 boxes ($451.24 after taxes) – $16.11/item

     $504 for 4 boxes with book bundle ($526.44 after taxes) – $16.11/item + $9.40/book bundle item

The total for the amazon dupes is $11.00 cheaper than to just buy 1 Lovevery playkit. However, If you buy all 4 playkits for a year at 1 time, it is $1 cheaper to get the Lovevery playkit. To me, it is clearly worth it to get the kits. They are always super high quality, mostly wooden toys with not a lot of bells and whistles that just over stimulates kids. I love the playkits and will continue to buy all of them until Aryi outgrows them.
