Toy Rotation 19
February 22, 2024
For some background introduction information on toy rotations see my first toy rotation blog at by clicking the link.
Last week’s toys and books:
We had every single Kiwico toy out these past 2 weeks. There were way too many toys out. That was clear. There were toys everywhere. I will say, Aryi played with every single one of these toys. Overall, the Kiwi toys are very fun, but the quality is not that great, mid at best. I was hoping there would be a few toys he would not play with, I could pack them up in a box and stick them in the attic. It did not happen. All toys were thoroughly played with.
This week’s toys and books:
There is a little bit of a split theme for this rotation. I just got a new Lovevery kit, so obviously I set out all of those toys. In addition to this, I decided to do a little back yard, bugs, garden type of theme on one of the shelves. Aryi has been going outside a lot more lately since the weather has been beautiful. He throws balls, plays with the seeds and sticks, and points at ants and other bugs.
Chunky Puzzle (Lovevery) – This is one of the toys that came in our newest playkit. I like this puzzle. Aryi has mastered all of the current puzzles he has. He needed a new challenge, without the difficulty of a larger puzzle. This is the nice medium we needed.
Buckle Barrel (Lovevery) – This is one of the toys that came in our newest playkit. This toy looks super fun. It might end up becoming a car toy. It keeps Aryi’s fingers busy.
Animal Matching with bag (Lovevery) – This is one of the toys that came in our newest playkit. Aryi loves animals. He was super excited to receive these. He matches them, says the sound they make, and lately, he has been making them take a nap.
Threading kit (Lovevery) – I pulled this out because I thought we could work on this skill more with better motor skills and problem solving.
Wooden Posting Stand (Lovevery) – This is one of the toys that came in our newest playkit. This toy gives us the opportunity to practice bigger and smaller.
Mosaic Button Board (Lovevery) – This is one of the toys that came in our newest playkit. Color matching is a favorite activity. I hope he will love this button board.
Felt Stars with transfer tweezers (Lovevery) – This is one of the toys that came in our newest playkit. Aryi can not use tweezers right now. This will give us the opportunity to work on that.
Cups and containers (Lovevery) – I thought these could be fun to play with with the stars.
Things I can Do Book (Lovevery) – This is one of the books that came in our newest playkit.
Graham Turns 2 Book (Lovevery) – This is one of the books that came in our newest playkit.
Leo and Melody at the Farm Book (Lovevery) – This is one of the books that came in our newest playkit. Aryi loves the farm. I have great hopes for this book.
Backyard Bugs Book (Hello, World from Amazon) – This fits into my garden theme. This will be fun with all of the bug watching Aryi has been doing lately.
Poppy’s Day out Book (Kiwico) – This fits into my garden theme. I thought this went with the outdoorsy garden type of theme with Aryi spending time outside.
Cuddle Bug Book (Amazon) – This fits into my garden theme. This is such a cute book. We talk about bugs and cuddling.
Plant a Seed, Watch it Grow Soft Book (Lovevery) – This fits into my garden theme. Aryi loves feeding the bunny carrots in this book.
Bunnies in a burrow (Lovevery) – This fits into my garden theme. I like to pull out the garden puzzle, carrot poster, garden puzzle, and bugs all at one time. They are super cute together and make me think of a little garden bustling with life.
Posting toy with carrots, coins, and q-tips (Lovevery) – This fits into my garden theme. Aryi will get tons of posting practice with these out.
Bugs (Lovevery) – This fits into my garden theme. Aryi has been OBSESSED.
Garden puzzle (Lovevery) – This fits into my garden theme.
Blockset (Lovevery) – I thought I would pull this out, since Aryi has been loving stacking lately.
Busy Lockbox (Lovevery) – I did not have a place to put this, so I just set it on the table.
Letter Basket:
This week we are switching to a Ff basket. The videos I will be playing are The Good and The Beautiful ABCs and ABC sounds, the letter Ff song from ABC mouse, the Letter Ff from ABCmouse, How to write the Letter Ff from ABCmouse, A to Z by ABC mouse, Alphabet Surprise Turn and Learn Letter Ff and Frank the Fish from Easy Peasy All-in-one Homeschool. These are the links for those songs in the order I wrote them below.
I say the letter and show it to Aryi. Then I will say the letter sound. This is a Ff and it says FFFFFFF. We go through words that start with the Letter Ff. I pull out the items as we go through the words. For Ff, I have a flower, flower flashcard, 4 and 5 flashcards, a family photo, a farm, a football, a frisbee, a fish, a frog, a flute, a Ff flashcard, and an Ff block. We can also point to our feet. I have an alphabet puzzle with letters A-F out. I will let Aryi Identify the letters from a few pieces and he can place the letters in his alphabet puzzle as we say A is for AAAA, B is for BBBB, C is for CCCC, and so on. We can read whatever related books Aryi wants to that day. I have 5 Alphabet books; ‘see, touch, feel ABC’, ‘abc’, ‘Once Upon an Alphabet’, ‘A is for Apple’ and ‘AB See”. I have books that feature Ff words; ‘Hello, Frog’, ‘See, Touch, Feel, Farm’, Look! Flowers!‘’, ‘Fox on the Loose!’, and ‘Animals in the Forrest’. I got the Ff word books from the library. This is a great way for us to practice our Ff sound when Aryi points to the things in the book and says what they are. Then we can do a Ff related coloring page or craft. I get some of these crafts from education.com and Easy Peasy All-in-one Homeschool. I also just make some crafts myself.
This format has been working well for us. Aryi thought we were playing and reading books like always, but we were learning too. I plan to have this basket out for the next two weeks then move on to G, so come back for that. Aryi comes to me and says basket, basket like 5 times a day. He enjoys this so much. To him it is play, to me, he is learning.
I am keeping this number basket pretty much the same. I removed the tactile flashcards so I could put 4 and 5 in my letter basket. I have peg boards with the numbers 1-10. I also have all of our number books in here: ”Numbers”, “How Many?”, “Counting with Barefoot Critters”, “Big and Little”, “Let’s Count”, “Baby Math”, “Poppy’s Surprise”, “Few and Many”, and “Pop-up Peekaboo Numbers”. I also threw in some wooden animals to use as manipulatives. I have 1 pig, 2 lions, and 3 bears. The bears can also be broken down, 1 is a polar bear and 2 are brown bears. Two of the animals are little and three of the animals are big. I play number videos such as Count to 15 by The good and the beautiful and Ice cream counting by Number blocks. These will be linked below. I also love the alphablocks. That can be found on Netflix.
