For some background introduction information on toy rotations see my first toy rotation blog at by clicking the link.
Last week’s toys and books:
We had tons of fun with the toys this week. Aryi played with the puzzles a lot and is still interested, so I will be keeping them out. I will also be keeping out the cars. He is still interested in that. I just want to add in a few extra things, maybe more vehicles or more cactus things.
This week’s toys and books:
Like I said above, we will be keeping out puzzles and vehicles, and adding in a little cactus.
Music Basket – I switched out the Lovevery bells and added in the xylophone. I have been seeing xylophones everywhere and thought it made sense.
Double-Sided Puzzle (Lovevery) – Aryi loves this little puzzle. It is so fun that you can use the same pieces for 2 different puzzles.
Pull Bus (Kiwico) – This pull bus is super cute. You can count to 4 or match colors. Aryi loves to pull it and watch the people jump up and down. We can sing wheels on the bus.
Bus (Lovevery) – This bus is BEAUTIFUL. I love it. We can sing wheels on the bus.
Counting Penguins (Knowledge Crate) – We can count and practice colors.
Counting Cacti (Knowledge Crate) – We can count and practice colors. We can practice matching, sequence, and patterns.
Roll and Poke (Knowledge Crate) – This game is so fun for Aryi and great for one to one correspondence.
My Rain Printables and related books (ThisMomThing on etsy) – We can go through my prints more this week. I also have related books pulled.
Wooden Puzzles (Lovevery) – Aryi has been loving the puzzles lately. He has mastered all of these, but still enjoys doing them.
Construction Puzzle (Gift) – This puzzle is so cool. You remove the puzzle pieces with a magnet.
Shape Sorter (Amazon) – Aryi has mastered this, but it is still super fun for him to put in all the pieces. This is an opportunity to talk about shapes and colors.
Cars (Amazon) – Aryi loves the cars. We are keeping these out. He can drive them around the living room.
Racing Cars (Lovevery) – These are super fun. Aryi has started actually racing them, throwing 2 cars down it at the same time.
Rainbow (Amazon) – This puzzle is so fun. We can practice our colors and maybe start to learn rainbow order.
Tunnel (Lovevery) – I felt like I wanted a physical toy out. This is fun and gets Aryi moving.
Blockset (Lovevery) – I pulled this off the shelf so that it might get more use. You can use these blocks in so many ways.
Letter Basket:
This week we are keeping our letter Kk basket. The videos I will be playing are linked below if you are interested in playing them yourself.
I say the letter and show it to Aryi. Then I will say the letter sound. This is a Kk and it says kkkkkk. We go through words that start with the Letter Kk. I pull out the items as we go through the words. For Kk, I have a kitten, kiwi, and Kk block. I have an alphabet puzzle with letters A-K out. I will let Aryi Identify the letters from a few pieces and he can place the letters in his alphabet puzzle as we say A is for AAAA, B is for BBBB, C is for CCCC, and so on. We can read whatever related books Aryi wants to that day. I have Alphabet books; ‘see, touch, feel ABC’, ‘abc’, ‘Once Upon an Alphabet’, ‘A is for Apple’ and ‘AB See”. I have books that feature Kk words; ‘I Love Pete the Kitty’, ‘The Kite’, ‘Kangaroo Kisses’, and ‘The Little Kangaroo’. I got the Kk word books from the library. This is a great way for us to practice our Kk sound when Aryi points to the things in the book and says what they are. Then we can do a Kk related coloring page or craft. I get some of these crafts from education.com and Easy Peasy All-in-one Homeschool. I also just make some crafts myself.
This format has been working well for us. Aryi thought we were playing and reading books like always, but we were learning too. I plan to have this basket out for the next two weeks then move on to Ll, so come back for that. Aryi comes to me and says basket, basket like 5 times a day. He enjoys this so much. To him it is play, to me, he is learning.
Number Basket:
I am keeping this number basket pretty much the same. I put the tactile flashcards back in. I have peg boards with the numbers 1-10. I also have all of our number books in here: ”Numbers”, “How Many?”, “Counting with Barefoot Critters”, “Big and Little”, “Let’s Count”, “Baby Math”, “Poppy’s Surprise”, “Few and Many”, and “Pop-up Peekaboo Numbers”. I also threw in some wooden animals to use as manipulatives. I have 1 pig, 2 lions, and 3 bears. The bears can also be broken down, 1 is a polar bear and 2 are brown bears. Two of the animals are little and three of the animals are big. I play number videos that I find on youtube sometimes.
