2024 Mardi Gras Basket with Sensory Bin and Activities
January 16, 2024
I love to make holiday baskets for Aryi to enjoy as we celebrate. I feel like my baskets help him learn a little bit about the holiday ahead of time. We get to celebrate for an entire month with fun little toys. We live in southern Louisiana. We do not celebrate Mardi Gras religiously since we are not catholic. We do, however, celebrate it just as a fun party. It is pretty hard to get away from Mardi Gras down here if you did not want to celebrate. It is everywhere.
Library Books – Free
Library books are a great way to celebrate a holiday a little bit cheaper. We regularly take full advantage of our library checking out books for each holiday or Letter basket.
12 Days of Mardi Gras
This book is super cute, 12 Days of Christmas vibes. Everyday the Krewe gives you Mardi Gras related things in the number that the day is.
Mardi Gras ABC
This book goes through the ABCs mentioning something about Mardi Gras for each of the letters.
Hat (Walmart)
I walked past this hat after I had everything else bought already and I thought Aryi NEEDS that. Aryi loves to put hats on. He likes to put them on me and his dad.
Glasses (Amazon) – $8.99
Aryi is obsessed with my glasses, so I like to add fun glasses to his baskets when I am able to.
T-shirt (Walmart)
I like to get Aryi a cute shirt or outfit for each holiday. I saw this as I was passing by in Walmart. This is the only one I actually liked.
Bear (Amazon) – $11.55
I love to throw a Holtztiger animal in each of Aryi’s holiday baskets. I would like to collect them for him. I think this may be something he would be able to pass down. They are super fun and allow for endless pretend play.
Crawfish (Walmart) – $3.48
I love to throw a stuffy in these baskets as well. I thought this crawfish was super adorable. It is very Louisiana. It has purple, green, and gold legs are perfect.
Light up necklaces (Amazon) – $12.99
Light up things are super fun and beads are a big part of Mardi Gras. Why not have light up beads.
Beads (Dollar tree) – $1.75
It’s not Mardi Gras without Beads.
Mask craft (Amazon) – $13.99
I always like to include some dollar tree crafts in this basket. I couldn’t find any. I did find this craft on Amazon. It is a little expensive. However, I think we will only use a few masks and have many for the coming years.
Stickers (Amazon) – $9.99
Aryi loves stickers. Again, I can usually pick up some from the dollar tree. There was nothing Mardi Gras Left by the time I started shopping AT THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY. That is crazy to me.
Mask (Dollar Tree) – $1.25
This was one of 4 masks left at the 3rd dollar tree I went to to find Mardi Gras Items. I thought it was super cute and could not believe it was only $1.25.
Cups (Amazon) – $7.96
I got these shot glasses on Amazon. (Aryi doesn’t know what a shot is, shut it Karen.) I thought these would be super fun for scooping and color sorting.
Sensory craft supplies (already had craft supplies)
I got a craft supply kit for Aryi during the Christmas time. I am so glad I bought that. It just keeps giving. I pulled purple, green, and yellow things.
Puzzles (Target) – $3.00 each
I grabbed these when I went to Target because I thought Aryi needed a little bit of a challenging puzzle. He has pretty much mastered the rest of them. This basket still looked a little bare, so I added it to this.
Sensory bin
I dyed rice and different shaped noodles green, yellow, and purple. I threw in some tiny cups for scooping, some cup cake liners, popsicle sticks, and some feathers. This should be a super fun sensory experience.
Sensory Activity 1
Playdough (already had)
I love to have playdough ready for a dull moment. I pulled the purple, green, and yellow cups from the bucket I got Aryi for Christmas and whala, we have a Mardi Gras sensory activity.
Sensory Activity 2
I took the colander from Christmas and replaced the pipe cleaners with purple, green, and yellow. Aryi really enjoyed this posting activity and should continue to love it.
